Mechanical Dimensions and a 3D model

In our Kickstarter campaign we had a great question about possible case designs, and although we didn’t have anything prepared, we appreciate you might want to start thinking about this now. There are already some great models for the various Pi boards, and a free tool such as TinkerCAD is very easy to learn if you’re just getting started. I must admit that in the beginning it is also easy to make a mistake that you don’t know about till later when things refuse to line up, but if you persevere you’ll love it when you can zoom around your own creation!

Hence we decided to create a first draft as soon as possible. Please note that we will need to verify all aspects before an official release, and we will aim to use this 3D model to do a test print of a case design that could serve as a first guide for your own custom case designs.

Between all the various SBC’s, HATs and other interfacing requirements that you might have there is no single case that will work for everyone, but we hope that these initial versions of the Red Reactor model will help you formulate a plan!

To help you find your way around the dimensions of the Red Reactor you can use this 3D model viewer. Only the critical items that may influence your case design are modeled at present. The file may take a moment to load, then you can use your mouse to rotate and turn the board, and zoom in as necessary.

Please note that this model includes the pogo-pins and stand-offs, the latter are 7mm tall using M2.5 screws to attach your Pi.

We hope you find these useful but do let us know of any feedback you might have. And we’d love to hear from you about your custom case designs!
